Linguistic Innovation

September 4th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

A long-standing interest in linguistically innovative poetry has me thinking about interesting new ways (new to me) to cross borders and histories. To understand, especially, the labor of Afro-modernity through the embodied poetics of “dialect.” For now, a mere hint of a suggestion. A juxtaposition.

Paul Laurence Dunbar
Louise Bennett
Amos Tutuola

How might these three be considered through the lens of linguistic innovation as theorists of Afro-modernity? Perhaps a class on the Aesthetics of Afro-modernity. Yes, I like this.

Apart from these three, who else would be/should be on the list?
