The Media Bill: Why Not Protest in 1998?

Do we really need an answer to this question? Do we really need to be reminded that protesting against government actions under Moi was futile? Do we need to be reminded that he was still president in 1998? Do we really need to reminded, again, of the multiple publishers and editors who were arrested, their equipment destroyed, their offices ransacked?

It is disingenuous and downright silly for some of us to keep asking why the media did not complain about media restrictions in 1998.

They couldn’t. That’s called repression. It’s what we are fighting against now.
